Project Overview and Summary

To construct a cross-border gas transmission pipeline linking Iraq’s Al-Zubair field (Basrah) with Abadan in Iran, aimed at facilitating gas export/import between the two countries. This includes integration with existing Iraqi and Iranian gas infrastructure.

Scope of Work:

  • Route survey and design

  • Construction of 36-inch high-pressure gas transmission pipeline (Approx. 100 km Iraq-side)

  • Construction of Metering & Pressure Regulating Station (MPRS) at border

  • Tie-ins to Al-Zubair and Iranian receiving network

  • SCADA integration and remote monitoring setup

  • Border-crossing permit coordination and environmental licensing

HSE Initiatives and Controls

  • Daily toolbox talks and weekly HSE walkthroughs

  • Permit-to-Work (PTW) system enforced for hot work, excavation, and lifting

  • Heat stress prevention campaign (July–Sept), including shaded rest tents and electrolyte packs

  • Wildlife relocation plan coordinated with local environmental authorities

  • Community health monitoring within 2 km of ROW

  • Fire-fighting units stationed every 10 km along ROW during welding phase

  • Monthly emergency drills for pipeline rupture and gas leaks

Monitoring Tools

  • GPS-tagged ROW with drone progress mapping every 15 days

  • GIS database layered with environmental buffer zones and soil classifications

  • Fiber-optic intrusion detection planned along final 10 km

Engagement Milestones

  • Public disclosure meetings in Al-Zubair and border towns (April 2024)

  • Grievance mechanism with hotline and field office drop-boxes (active)

  • Community impact assessment completed with local input

  • Regular briefings to governorate-level committees (quarterly)
